What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a surpisingly common condition that affects nearly 40%-60% of all men. The name, through greek translation, is literally translated to "woman breast". If you have Gynecomastia, take comfort knowing that many people are affected by this ailment. Although the majority of cases where this condition exists do not endanger the patient physically, I know how debilitating Gynecomastia can be psychologically.
Gynecomastia often leads to depression, low self-esteem and feelings of self-consciousness. I can say that it really made me feel like an outcast among other men - inferior would be the best description for this emotion. It's amazing how the pyschological affects of this disorder can ostrocize you from everyday society.
Gynecomastia occurs when Adipose Tissue (Body Fat) and and Breast Tissue (Gynecomastia) forms in front of the Pectoral Muscles, causing the chest to look breast-like. Essentially, the chest fat is hanging off in front of the muscle in a disproportionate amount.
There are varying degrees of gynecomastia and treatment options may change with the level of your condition.
Surgical alternatives are extremely common these days and carry few risks. It's important to keep in mind that if you do decide to have surgery, outcomes are not perfect and you should consult with your doctor to have realistic expectations when you go under the knife. Only your doctor can tell you what kind of results to expect.
